Principal's Message

From the Principal’s Desk

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Perez Career and Transition Center.

Our instructional focus is teaching entry-level job skills to students to prepare them as work-capable and hirable by employers. Our vocational educators are highly committed to providing the students with the best opportunities for becoming independent adults, prepared for life in the workforce. We emphasize a hands-on, practical transition-to-work program that provides students with the tools and support necessary to live and work as independently as possible after completing school. Perez offers a continuum of programs, including job internships at local businesses, training for the public transportation system, and vocational training classes here at Perez, and at East Los Angeles Community College.

Additionally, each student receives instruction in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, English Language Development (ELD), and an exciting new Transition curriculum which focuses on independent living, social, and job skills. Every student will have the opportunity to participate in Community-Based Instruction on Tuesdays.

Research clearly shows that parent and community involvement in schools improves student achievement. There will be many workshops provided on topics of interest to parents, such as how to support student independence and achievement at home, community services, and conservatorship to name a few.

Know that the staff at Perez will work very hard, every day, to create a positive and welcoming school climate for students. We want to make strong connections with students, offer them an engaging curriculum, and help them to develop and grow to be independent as possible. Not a day goes by when we are not reflecting on how we can improve as a school.

Onward and Upward Soaring Eagles,
Ms. Manuela Hernandez
